Comparison of Age in The Greater Boston Neighborhood Noise Survey and Populations in Both Somerville, MA and Boston, MA
Age | Our Survey | Somerville, MA | Boston, MA |
Persons 65 and older | 16% | 9.1% | 10.1% |
Source: United States Census 2010 (www.census.gov/quickfacts)
We received the largest number of responses from the 30-39 year old age bracket (31%), which is quite representative of the median age in Boston (31.1 years) and Somerville (39.9). Further, roughly 16% of our study participants were over the age of 65. The percentage of persons over the age of 65 who took our survey was slightly higher than those in both Somerville and Boston.
CALL TO ACTION: While persons over the age of 65 were overrepresented in our survey (in comparison to Census percentages) we would like to dig deeper into the elderly population responses to community noise—especially those who are retired and spend the majority of their time at their homes. Appealing to nursing homes and retirement communities with a paper-based survey will make this goal possible.
Our goal is to create a comprehensive report card, which means that we need to hear from you. Please Click HERE to fill out our noise survey so that your response can be included in our next update.
