Horns. What would a city be without them? Quieter, for sure. Horn sound is a very polarizing issue. On one side of the coin, you have those residents completely unfazed. As a matter of fact, they view horns as part of the soundtrack of the city. From a decibel perspective, horns are loud. Field measurements show that they can be as loud as 80 – 85 dBA. Train horns can be even louder (a mind boggling 120 + dBA).
The map presented here shoes the distribution of annoyance levels from horn sound based on results from The Greater Boston Neighborhood Noise Survey. Do you notice any particular patterns?
