As fall approaches, many lawn and garden companies add to their arsenal, the mighty and powerful and loud leaf blower. In many instances, this sound starts very early in the morning—around 7am when noise ordinances dictate that maintenance and construction work can start. Erica Walker recently presented findings from a lawn and garden sound propagation pilot study at NoiseCON 2016. Findings showed that sound levels exceeded community outdoor daytime sound levels standards at distances up to 800 feet away from the source. We thought it would be interesting to create a visual map detailing the distribution of annoyance levels towards leaf blower sound. What patterns do you notice?
