Greater Boston Neighborhood Noise Report Card
REPORT CARD

Welcome to the South End and Bay Village report cards! If we had to describe these two neighborhoods in one word, we’d say posh. However, while quite true, this one word simply does not do this neighborhood justice. While decidedly old-world charming with its beautiful Victorian brownstone buildings, woven between is a vividly modern space. In this tiny portion of the city, are world class restaurants, a lively art scene, and lots of plush green and recreational spaces (according to the City of Boston’s website, 30 parks)!
It’s also a diverse neighborhood with a large number of African American, Latino, and LGBTQ residents. However, being so close to the city, so densely packed, and so close to Boston University’s Level 1 Medical Center, we are not surprised to hear that residents are most often bothered by ambulance and police sirens, noise from other neighbors, and road traffic from very busy Massachusetts Avenue, Tremont Street, Interstate 90 and Interstate 93. There also tends to be a large volume of plane activity.
