Greater Boston Neighborhood Noise Report Card
REPORT CARD

Welcome to our Charlestown report card! This peninsula neighborhood (bound by the Mystic River and the Boston Harbor) is the oldest neighborhood in the city. It houses three historically important landmarks: The Bunker Hill Monument, which pays homage to The Battle of Bunker Hill; The USS Constitution, a navy ship launched in 1797; and the Charlestown Navy Yard, which was established in 1800. Coexisting with this rich history is a population of residents who like to entertain themselves with more 21th-century pursuits, many of which can be found on the neighborhood’s bustling Main Street. The issue of neighborhood noise in this community seems to be a divided one. On one hand, you have residents who feel as if the neighborhood is quite peaceful—especially if they happen to reside on one of those quiet side streets. On the other hand, however, are those residents who find it to be painfully loud—especially if they happen to live right next to the Interstate.
