TEMPORALITY OVERALL: NUMBER OF NOISE COMPLAINTS BY TIME OF DAY
- NUMBER OF NOISE COMPLAINTS BY TIME OF DAY
Analyzing the time of day in which noise complaints occur can give us a clearer picture of the times of day when residents are most bothered by sounds in their community. We consider three time periods:
-
Sleeping hours are defined as the time period between 9 pm and 5:59 am and are meant to represent the time when the majority of city residents are sleeping.
-
The AM time period corresponds to the time period between 6 am and 11:59 am.
-
The PM time period corresponds to the time from noon until 8:59:59 pm.
The PM and “sleeping hours” time period accounted for the majority of noise complaints. While we do understand that the way these time periods were defined gives more hours to both the “sleeping hours” and PM time, a breakdown of complaints using AM (12am – 11:59:59 am) and PM (12 pm to 11:59:59 pm) still shows that the majority of complaints are made during the PM hours (57%).
