This map highlights the spatial distribution of train sound levels annoyance throughout the Greater Boston Area based on our 2016-2017 survey responses. Train sound has distinct low and high frequency characteristics. Therefore, train sound not only resonates within the auditory system, it may also be perceived by other parts of the body outside of the auditory system. As a Greater Boston Neighborhood Noise Survey participant wrote in his comment: The noise around here gets inside of your bones. What patterns do you observe? What is the train annoyance level in your neighborhood?
